Color Me Paas

This is the first time Miss M got to Dye Easter Eggs. It was no surprise she really liked it, since she is so in to painting and coloring. I love how she is gushing in these photos.

It did surprise me to take a walk down memory lane - it has been years since I colored eggs myself. We used to use my mom's white tea cups, which were perfect for showcasing the colors and holding just one soaking egg, maybe two, if you had too many impatient kids.

I can still feel that awkward sensation of holding out the wire frame and balancing and egg. When I was older, I became seasoned enough to sit for a while dangling an egg in the water to create a half and half colored egg.

It was also one of those things we did with our dad.

D and I had to reign ourselves in from Project Managing this activity too much. Toddlers just don't have the finesse to lightly drop and egg into a bowl and let it marinate. They're more of the "plunk and turn and pick it out with your hand and drop it in another bowl and use the wire frame as an eye glass" types.

D gave me a hard time for buying brown eggs to do this but when you get down to the nuts an bolts of it, I still want to eat our harvest. All in all, we were pretty impressed with our color scheme turnout.

Cheers to Spring!

Hello Spring

We welcomed the warmth last week with our first bout of strep and the all encompassing need for a popsicle. Since then, they have become a daily standard - the popsicles, not the strep. Every year I greet the warm weather like an old friend I missed madly over the past four months. Sometimes I don't know how I get through the winter and to be honest, the last month has been a challenge. I forget each year and then I find myself in the lull of February and now craving the need for the outdoors as a play option. Then magically we set our clocks forward, the days grow longer with more hours spent outside and sticky drippings find their way to bare feet. Mud replaces snow, mostly, and we watch our grass green. Everything thaws out, including me.

Freshly Squeezed

It's getting so nice to finally be able to take advantage of having kids for the sheer free labor effect. We've added a new "Juicer(ess)" to the roster and she makes on heck of a carrot/orange juice cocktail. As they say though, any meal someone else prepares for you is always delicious.

As the Green Streams By

There were lots of strange things in Denver's St. Patrick's Day Parade:
Pirates, Germans in Liederhosen, Jeeps...but hey, who doesn't love a parade?!
Miss M and I met the Rodgers clan and O for some fun times.
And yes, I know it's not Thanksgiving or an Alien arrival...

It certainly was cold though.
Nice for snuggling with a cousin, until...
one realizes they give away candy at these things and then you are off with the other cousin!

We finally had a little brunch at our house. Luckily it turned out to be a nice day because I couldn't figure out how to fit everyone inside. A sunny day and good food are always a nice mix with friends. The kids of course stole the show with the photos. One day, I will get around to taking pictures of the adults again.

We went to the Colorado History Museum on the last day Marie and Allen were in town. It's a great place to take visitors since they can get to know CO in a whole other way. It was also just redone so it's pretty nice inside. They have a great interactive area for little kids, which is good for a mom. Marie indulged Miss M the whole trip. She holds herself with so much intelligence, it's great to watch her interact with M. I hope Miss M gleams some of her well-maintained manners and smarts. In any case, like any little kid she adored the older "kid" in her presence. Ah cousins are such a magical connection...

As Marie decides where to head to college next year,
I know she certainly is one of those people "Most Likely to Succeed"
